FAQs

What is the Angels in Adoption™ program?

The Angels in Adoption™ Program, the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s (CCAI) signature public awareness program, provides an opportunity to all members of the U.S. Congress to honor the good work of their constituents who have enriched the lifves of foster children and orphans.  This program includes an annual event in Washington, DC, the Angels in Adoption™ Gala, which is geared toward highlighting ordinary people doing extraordinary things. These “unsung heroes” are selected as Angels in Adoption™ by members of the Congress. In addition to these Angel in Adoption™ chosen from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, “National Angels” are recognized for their adoption and foster care advocacy on a broader, nationwide scale.   Each year, more than 190 Members of Congress participate, making it the year’s single most significant Congressional event pertaining to child welfare in the United States.

What is the attire?

For all of Monday's events the attire is casual.

For all of Tuesday's events and Wednesday's Pin Ceremony please wear business attire or "church attire".  Keep in mind that you will be photographed with one or several Members of Congress.

For Wednesday's Gala, we suggest business professional dress: a nice suit, usually dark in color, or a cocktail dress. The gala is in the evening and does include a standing reception before hand, so comfortable shoes will help you enjoy the night.

Who nominated me?

A Senator or Representative from your state or district provided us with your name, contact information, and brief biography of your good work. They received your information from one of their constituents, so I encourage you to ask your friends! You are also welcome to call Chelsea Cathcart at CCAI who can put you in contact with your selecting Member of Congress’ office. Either way, many people think you deserve the recognition!

Why should I come to Washington, DC?

This is an opportunity for Congress to celebrate your good work as well and communicate to Members of Congress that adoption and foster care issues are very important to their constituents. The Angels in Adoption™ Events are truly once in a lifetime experiences.

Who will be at the events?

You can expect about 20 Members of Congress in attendance. Other Gala attendees include your fellow Angels in Adoption™, adoption advocacy organizations, and event sponsors. Gala attendance last year included over 600 people.

What is the price of tickets to the Gala?

As an Angel in Adoption™ you are given 2 complementary tickets. This is for every Angel, whether an organization, couple or individual. It is not two tickets per listed person (ie: a couple does not get 4 complementary tickets in total). Beyond your allotted two complementary tickets, you may purchase additional seats for $100 per adult meal and $50 per child meal for kids under the age of 18 to cover the cost of the food. (Please note: child guests will be served a fruit cup and chicken tenders. If you would like an adult meal be sure to include them as an adult guest).

Do I have to pay for my own travel to Washington, DC?

It is our dream to be able to fly each and every Angel to Washington for the three days of events celebrating our Nation's most giving individuals.  Unfortunately, CCAI is not able to provide travel assistance to every Angel this year.  To help defray some of the costs for our most needy of Angels, CCAI has set up an "Angel Wings Fund," which will provide $500-$1,000 scholarships to Angels to help with their travel to Washington.  You can apply for scholarships under the 'Angels Wings' section of this website.

Does CCAI, as a tax-exempt non-profit, accept matching gifts?
